The CPU is the little device that does all the hard work in the computer, it also makes the computer work so without it your computer would just be there for decoration. The data in the program tells the CPU to do lots of simple jobs. For example, sending data to the different parts of the computer, or reading data from other parts of the computer. But they are processed so rapidly that it just appears smooth. When you move the computer mouse around, the processor is receiving data from the mouse, and then it tells the mouse pointer to move on the screen.
